Many of them ended up in the refugee camps across the border in Burundi, like a young journalist Judicael Kabulot. In Deember 2025, we went to Burundi with UNHCR to document how internet connectivity facilitates humanitarian response and helps those who are forcibly displaced.

Judicael came to us with professional curiosity as we were filming around the camp. We bonded around cameras, music and shared passion for storytelling. On the last day, we sat down and he told us his story that embodies everything we ever wanted you to know about life as a forcibly displaced person: the horrors of war, the daily struggles of living in camps, the hopes and dreams for a better future and the ingenuity of people who refuse to give up and make the most of the life in conditions few of us could survive. Not all heroes wear capes!
